About Rachel CorbettWHO THE HECK AM I?

My name is Rachel Corbett and I’ve spent almost two decades working professionally in media, specialising in podcasting and radio.

I’m a bit of a jack of all trades so here’s a little summary of what I do…

I’M A PODCAST EXPERT

Fear not!  I am not one of those shonks who says they’re an expert when they’ve been really only working on something for a month.

I’ve been knee-deep in audio, learning the craft, honing my skills and finally teaching those skills to people coming up through the ranks for almost twenty years (how did I get so old???)

Most recently, I’ve put those skills into practice as Head of Podcasts for Mamamia where I had the privilege of growing the podcast network from 15 to over 35 shows, the team from two to nine producers and the audience to over 1 million unique listeners a month and over 90 million downloads which is more than quadruple where it was when I started.  It was a big few years!

In my role I was responsible for concepting, casting and overseeing the production of all new and existing shows as well as training the producers and hosts to make sure we were shipping out kick-arse content at all times.

We even won a bunch of awards including Best Use of Podcasts at the Native Advertising Awards 2020 in Berlin for our podcast about divorce, The Split, Best Business & Marketing Podcast at the Australian Podcast Awards 2019 for Lady Startup (also hosted by me) and Best Podcast of 2019 for our daily news show, The Quicky at the Mumbrella Publish Awards 2019 (to name a few…humble brag ;)).

I was also lucky enough to host a few of their pods including Lady Startup, Eligible, Before The Bump, Get Me Pregnant and Sealed Section.

Outside of Mamamia I’ve also created three of my own podcasts including Paul and Rach, which hit the Top 5 in iTunes in its first week and was awarded Best of iTunes 2014, the PodSchool Podcast which features weekly tips to help improve your podcast and You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere, an interview series where I talk to Australian celebrities about how they got into showbiz.

Plus, I’ve presented at conferences including Mumbrella 360, OzPod, Problogger and Podcast Movement.

So, you can trust I know what I’m on about.

I’M AN ONLINE COURSE CREATOR

After years spent hosting and producing radio shows and podcasts for professional media organisations, I wanted to wrap everything I’d learned up into a step-by-step course to help people who wanted to start their own podcast but didn’t know how.Learn how to podcast at PodSchool

PodSchool is a comprehensive course, you can do at your own pace, that takes you through everything you need to know to create a show, build an audience and bring money in the door. On top of that, it focuses on how you can apply tips and tricks used by professionals to help you connect with your audience, record killer audio and edit so no one would ever know the show was coming out of your lounge room.

I’M A MEDIA SWINGER

I’m all for monogamy in relationships but in media, I’ve found it a little hard to commit.

I’ve worked as a writer and my words have been read in The Huffington Post, The Daily Telegraph, News.com.au, Mamamia, The Collective, Problogger and Body + Soul.

I can also be found weekly on The Project on Channel 10 and have worked as a TV presenter/panellist on shows including Q&A, Have You Been Paying Attention, The Morning Show, Weekend Sunrise, The Verdict, The Today Show, Weekend Today, Paul Murray Live and Studio 10.

Despite all this media promiscuity, for the first decade years of my career, I was faithful to commercial radio.

Merrick and the Highway PatrolOver on my radio page I go into the kind of detail only my parents asked for but the short version is I spent the best part of a decade moving across the country hosting breakfast shows for stations including Hit 929, Hit 107, Triple M Melbourne and Sea FM Central Coast.  Eventually, I found my way back home to Sydney where I spent five years behind the mic at Triple M, finishing up as host of their national drive show, Merrick and The Highway Patrol, with Merrick Watts and Jules Schiller.

If you prefer to see things in pictures, here are some of the places I’ve been seen, read or heard over the years…
