What equipment do you need to start a podcast?

Want to start your own podcast but don’t know what you need?  Well, let me help you.

First up, if you haven’t already, make sure you download my free “How To Start A Podcast” Guide where I explain what each piece of equipment does.

If you’re already across that you’ll find links below to my top recommendations for podcasting equipment, tools and software to help you create a kick-arse podcast, even if you’re recording from home.

Everything on the list I’ve either used personally or they’ve been recommended to me by a podcaster I trust.

Please note some of the links below are affiliate links, which means if you choose to make a purchase through the link, I will earn a small commission. This comes at no additional cost to you and hasn’t impacted my decision to include these items on this list.  Please feel free to use the links as a guide to find each item, read reviews and then purchase wherever you’d prefer.

Podcast Microphones

If you want to record high-quality audio it’s essential you have a good quality microphone but you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get one.  Below are my top podcast microphone recommendations whether you’re recording directly onto your computer (this requires a USB mic), collecting audio in the field on your phone (ideally you want to use a better mic than the built-in mic) or recording into a portable audio recorder or mixer (this requires an XLR mic).

USB Microphones

Microphones that plug directly into your computer…
