HERE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MY LIFE IN RADIO?
Let me bring you up to speed…
For almost two decades, I’ve worked as a radio presenter, writer, TV host and podcaster producing content for some of Australia’s largest media organisations….but you just came here for the radio bit, right?
My career behind the mic kicked off back in 2001 and for the next six years, I lived the nomadic life of a breakfast radio host, babbling into a microphone for stations across the country including Triple M Melbourne, Hit 107 in Adelaide, Hit 929 in Perth and Sea FM on the Central Coast.
In 2007 I was finally ready to stop paying removalists, so I brought my little handkerchief on a stick back to Sydney and shopped my wares around town, hosting shows including Hit 104’s Hot 30 Countdown and Summer Breakfast for NOVA 969. In 2009 I finally unpacked the handkerchief for good and set up shop at Triple M Sydney.
From 2009 – 2011 my buddy Paul Murray and I hosted the drive show, Paul and Rach, for Triple M Sydney. With no producers and our bosses distracted with building a breakfast show, Paul and I got up to some serious mischief running competitions like the Nude Streaking Championships and The Mile High Club (which was pretty close to what you’re imagining). Essentially it was the two of us in a room with a blank piece of paper, two hours to fill every day and some crazy ideas. When Paul got the call to join the AM big leagues at 2UE, I started setting the alarm for 4 am again and joined Matty Johns, Gus Worland and Mark Geyer on The Triple M Grill Team.
After a year in the locker room with the boys, I returned to my favourite time slot on Triple M’s national drive show, Merrick and the Highway Patrol, with Merrick Watts and Jules Schiller. The Highway Patrol was broadcast to over 40 stations nationwide and in the two years of that show we executed some bizarre ideas including building The Carbeque (half car, half BBQ), creating the world’s first Turducken Ridiculous (20 different meats roasted inside a pig), assembling the Unharmonic Orchestra (a collection of crappy instruments playing atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and a colossal food fight.
Over the years I’ve MC’d countless events and conducted hundreds of interviews with everyone from international celebrities like Will Smith and Daniel Craig to politicians including ex-Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.
These days I’m the Director of Podcasts for Mamamia, the founder of the online podcasting course, PodSchool and the creator of three (and counting) podcasts including Paul and Rach, You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere and the PodSchool Podcast.
You can also find me every Thursday on The Project on Channel 10.
