Getting Started

Should you start your podcast before you’re ready?

Not feeling ready to start your podcast? Do it anyway.

If you’ve got a great idea, you’ve done your content planning and you know there’s an audience out there who’ll get value from your show…you’re ready enough.

You don’t need to feel 100% confident to get started because honestly, no one ever does.

There’s no such thing as the perfect time to launch

When you’re starting a podcast, it’s easy to think you need to have everything sorted before you press publish…the perfect mic, the perfect branding, the perfectly crafted episodes.

But often aiming for perfection is just procrastination in disguise.

What matters most is that you’ve done the work to validate your idea and you’re creating content that offers real value to your audience.

If you’re waiting to feel ready, you might be waiting forever.

What does “ready” even look like?

Before you start recording episodes, it helps to ask:

  • Have I nailed my podcast idea?
  • Do I know who my show is for and why they’ll care?
  • Is there enough content to sustain the show weekly?

If you can confidently answer those questions with “Yes!”, even if everything else feels a little wobbly, that’s a solid foundation and enough to start your show.

Perfection is not the goal…momentum is

You won’t find your voice, improve your presenting or grow an audience if your show isn’t out in the world.

The only way to get better, and to get your content in front of people who might love it, is to publish episodes regularly and use that momentum to improve over time.

Podcasting is a long game.

You might be sharing episodes for months or even years before you see significant growth and that’s normal.

Consistency is your secret weapon.

Start scrappy and improve as you go

Most podcasters would be embarrassed to listen back to their first few episodes and that’s because all shows grow and evolve over time.

If you’ve got an idea you’re passionate about and a clear reason for your show to exist, don’t wait.

Just get started.
